At the age of 17, Reid DeLaubenfels has accomplished more in his short tennis career than most recreational players ever will their entire playing careers. As a senior at nearby Nathan Hale High School, Reid has been on a 6-month whirlwind of winning. Highlighted by great National tournament play and winning the coveted AAA Washington State High School Title, Reid is still in the midst of his soaring improvement with no ceiling in sight.

It was only five years ago that Reid was just another USTA Challenger level junior competing in random tournaments. Then, after making the decision to advance himself as a serious tennis player, he committed to junior development specialist, Jesse Schouten, and his high performance program averaging three days a week in group sessions and two privates lessons per month, while playing at least one tournament per month. Reid elevated his game and his status as one of the top USTA Champs level players. Currently ranked #2 in Washington state and #4 in the PNW for Boys 18's, Reid has compiled an impressive record in 2010 tournament play and has had strong performances against national blue-chip recruits.

Commenting on the remarkable play of his star player, Coach Schouten states, “I believe that Reid's receptiveness to coaching and consistently wanting to improve are his largest assets. This has been a learned process for Reid, and he continues to improve his mindset.”

Reid's current main objective is to become a top athlete, not just a top tennis player, and recently joined a group called "CrossFit."

If Reid can stick with this high intensity program, I believe we will continue to see Reid's level of play spike,” says Coach Schouten. “Reid is a great example of a player willing and truly wanting to improve everyday.”

With a passion for competition and tennis, Reid's goal is to play within the top 6 at a nationally ranked NCAA Division I school. With a whole new school year ahead of him,  his chances of obtaining that goal look pretty good.

Congratulations Reid Delaubenfels on your stellar play and accomplishments!
